Welcome to OWABODA Driver ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the OWABODA Driver mobile application and related services (collectively, the "App"). Please read this policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Personal Information You Provide
When you register and use the OWABODA Driver App, we may collect the following personal information:
- Account Information: Full name, email address, phone number, date of birth, and profile photograph.
- Driver Documentation: National ID, driver's licence, vehicle registration certificate, vehicle insurance documents, and other legally required documents.
- Vehicle Information: Vehicle make, model, year, colour, and licence plate number.
- Financial Information: Bank account details, mobile money account information, and payout method preferences for receiving earnings.
- Identity Verification Data: Photographs and scans of government-issued identification submitted during the driver onboarding and verification process.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use our App, we automatically collect certain information, including:
- Location Data: Precise GPS location data when the App is running (including when in the background while you are on an active trip or available to accept rides). Location data is used to match you with nearby passengers, calculate routes, and ensure trip accuracy.
- Device Information: Device type, operating system and version, unique device identifiers, mobile network information, and app version.
- Usage Data: Log files, activity history within the App, trip records, features accessed, and interaction with the App's interface.
- Communication Data: Records of in-app communications, support requests, and messages exchanged within the platform.
- Performance Data: Crash reports, diagnostic logs, and performance metrics to help us maintain and improve the App.
1.3 Information from Third Parties
We may receive information about you from third parties, including:
- Background check and identity verification service providers.
- Payment processing and financial service partners.
- Google Maps, Firebase, and other integrated platform providers.
- Social media platforms (if you choose to connect them).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
2.1 To Provide Our Services
- Create and manage your driver account.
- Facilitate ride matching between drivers and passengers.
- Calculate fares, process trip requests, and display navigation routes.
- Process earnings and facilitate payouts to your designated account.
- Verify your identity and eligibility to operate as a driver on our platform.
2.2 To Improve and Personalise the App
- Analyse usage patterns to enhance features and user experience.
- Conduct research and analytics to understand platform performance.
- Personalise your experience based on your preferences and history.
- Develop new features, services, and improvements.
2.3 To Communicate with You
- Send trip confirmations, updates, and notifications.
- Provide account alerts, security notifications, and support responses.
- Share important announcements about changes to the App or policies.
- Deliver promotional content and offers (you may opt out at any time).
2.4 For Safety and Security
- Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, or safety incidents.
- Verify driver compliance with platform standards and legal requirements.
- Monitor trips for safety purposes and resolve disputes.
- Respond to emergency situations involving drivers or passengers.
2.5 To Comply with Legal Obligations
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.
- Respond to lawful requests from public authorities.
- Enforce our Terms and Conditions and other platform agreements.
3. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
3.1 With Passengers
When you accept a ride, passengers will see your first name, profile photo, vehicle details, and real-time location. Your full name, phone number, and personal documents are never shared with passengers.
3.2 With Service Providers
We share data with trusted third-party vendors who assist us in operating our platform, including:
- Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers (e.g., Firebase).
- Payment processing partners and financial institutions.
- Background check and identity verification providers.
- Customer support tools and communication platforms.
- Analytics and performance monitoring services.
These partners are contractually bound to handle your data securely and only for the purposes specified by OWABODA.
3.3 For Legal Reasons
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
3.4 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Location Data
The OWABODA Driver App requires access to your device's precise location to function. Specifically:
- Foreground Location: Used when you are actively using the App to display your position on the map and match you with nearby ride requests.
- Background Location: Used while you have the App open and are set to "Available" status, even if the App is not in the foreground, to ensure you can receive ride requests.
You can revoke location permissions through your device settings at any time; however, doing so will prevent you from using the core functionality of the App. We do not collect location data when you are offline or logged out.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your driver account is active or as needed to provide our services. Specifically:
- Account data is retained for the duration of your account and up to 5 years after account closure.
- Trip records and financial data are retained for up to 7 years to comply with financial and regulatory requirements.
- Document verification data is retained as required by applicable transportation and regulatory laws.
- Usage and performance logs are retained for up to 12 months.
You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 8 – Your Rights).
6. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information, including:
- SSL/TLS encryption for data transmitted between the App and our servers.
- Secure storage of sensitive data including documents and financial details.
- Access controls and authentication requirements for our systems.
- Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Firebase Authentication and secure token-based session management.
Despite these measures, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to protecting your data using commercially reasonable means.
7. Children's Privacy
The OWABODA Driver App is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 18. If we discover that a minor has provided us with personal data, we will promptly delete it. If you believe a minor has submitted information to us, please contact us immediately.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and personal data (subject to legal retention obligations).
- Portability: Request your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Objection: Object to certain types of data processing, including marketing communications.
- Restriction: Request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances.
- Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for optional data uses at any time without affecting previous processing.

10. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country of residence. We ensure that any international transfers of personal data are carried out with appropriate safeguards in place, in compliance with applicable data protection laws.
11. Push Notifications
We may send you push notifications to alert you of new ride requests, account updates, and important platform information. You can manage or disable notifications through your device's settings at any time.
12. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Our App may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to improve your experience, remember your preferences, and analyse usage patterns. You can control cookie usage through your device or browser settings.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make significant changes, we will:
- Post the updated policy in the App with a new "Last Updated" date.
- Send you an in-app notification or email about material changes.
Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
